OFT's deadline passes
Ryanair has missed a long standing deadline to improve their website by including the cost of taxes and other associated charges. The Office of Fair Trading has been saying for sometime that the website is misleading to customers as it features prices that are not achievable once the other charges are added.
The OFT gave the airline a deadline at beginning of the year to revamp its site but that deadline was missed. The airline has recently reported a huge slump in its annual profits. It blamed the higher cost of fuel and longer flying routes for its fall in income from 48million Euros to 35million. The closure of their website for three days could cost the airline as much as £20million, the airline fears a 50 per cent cut in its profits due to worsening economic conditions. A further breach of imposed deadlines could have resulted in the OFT bringing enforcement proceedings against them resulting in a possible shut down of the airline's booking system. The website will be offline from 10pm on February 22nd to 11.59pm on February 25th.
